Back in the 1980s I had a great group of friends who were all training to be orthopaedic surgeons; over the years they saw fads come and go, but Pilates made the biggest ripples and worked so effectively it became mainstream. Physios all over the world were advocating Pilates as a rehabilitation tool, and it has stayed.

I personally discovered Pilates whilst trying to 'cure' my own recurring back injury, sustained whilst trying to tackle an army assault course. After a hefty housemove 10 years later my injury came back to haunt me, and not for the first time I found myself with the physio to get it functioning again. She suggested Pilates; I found a class, practiced the moves at home and was amazed at the difference it made to my back. I loved it and I was hooked.
